ITAS Limited believes that the introduction of sustainable plantations is an answer to reforestation of the Amazon. To produce this legacy, we believe it is vital to employ and educate local labour to manage our plantations. We ensure that our work force our fairly paid and assist in social projects to maintain education and welfare throughout the community.
Unfortunately, in rural Brazil illiteracy is commonplace. As part of its commitment to the local communities where we have plantations, I.T.A.S Limited supports Agencia do bem (wellness agency) to provide training and literature classes to complement the existing education system at all levels and to reengage those who discontinued their studies prematurely.
Agencia do bem was chosen by ITAS as it has over the last 8 years they have been doing excellent work with underprivileged communities in the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro.
Over the years, several actions have been taken and new projects were implemented in the areas of education, health, art, culture, safety, advocacy, food, communication and community mobilisation among others. Their transparency and dedication was paramount for the decision to be taken for ITAS to financially support the still time to learn project. As we believe in the old however truthful cliche:
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
I.T.A.S Limited shares the ethos that literacy will give the people a chance to better themselves and get prepared for further education or better job opportunities.
