The team members at ITAS headed by Adrian Byrne have begun a fundraising push for UNICEF and will be taking part in the 2015 London/Surrey 100 Bike Ride. The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 bike ride starts in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and follows a 100 mile cycling route through London and into Surrey’s stunning countryside.
It is a catastrophic fact that 13 million hectares of the world’s forests are lost due to irresponsible deforestation every year. Between 2000 and 2011 Brazil alone has suffered an average annual net loss of forest area of some 1.725 million hectares. Unfortunately, the majority of this deforestation in Brazil can be attributed directly to humans.
Rondônia is nestled in northwest Brazil, with Porto Velho as its capital city. It boasts a total area of 237 576.16 square kilometres, which is equivalent to 91 729 square miles. Rondônia is bordered by Acre, Amazonas, Mato Grosso and Bolivia. ITAS were invited to meet with the Mayor of “Mirante da Serra” and the chief of police. Mirante da Serra is a municipality (or city) of the state of Rondonia where ITAS have there Teak plantations in Brazil. (more…)
Forest Engineer graduated from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro – Brazil ( UFRRJ ) with a Master of Forestry from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom (UK). Mr Braga is specialist in tropical forests, and has been acting in several Southern Hemisphere countries outside the U.S. and Europe over the last 25 years. (more…)
